Greeting Gestures in Kazakh Culture: An Experimental Study

The aim of the study is to examine etiquette forms of greeting as a basis for describing non-verbal signs of communication of the Kazakh ethnic group.

The article is devoted to the characteristics of the ethnocultural features of non-verbal behavior of representatives of the titular ethnic group of the southern region of Kazakhstan. The choice of the topic is associated with the need to describe non-linguistic ritualized forms of communication (greeting gestures) as specific markers reflecting the cultural diversity of Kazakh society. In addition to the patterns inherent in universal gestures, the work presents phenomena specific to this type of communication, which include a set of socio-cultural realities and their ethno-differentiating properties. The results of the study showed that the non-verbal behavior of representatives of the Kazakh linguistic community reflects not only the uniqueness of customs, rituals, natural conditions of life, everyday life of the people, but also the rich experience of multicultural communication. The study of greeting gestures in different speech situations helps to understand the cultural context, the nuances of communication, the program of social behavior in a "nationally colored" form and enriches the perception of a particular non-verbal gesture embedded in the behavior of communicants.
